Rob McKenzie recommend going East, 2000/4/17

The better direction (instead of West) is to go East along the front foothills to the new dam, to the hill on the east side of the dam, then turn south across the Crafton Hills. Across the west end of Yucaipa, continuing DUE SOUTH across some low hills across San Timoteo Canyon and more low hills to the hwy 60 then run with the onshore breeze toward Soboba above Gilman Springs Rd and into Hemet. This far I've made many times but to continue (which I've not done yet) would then be to go south to Skinner lake and beyond maybe to Julian if really lucky.

Never consider a flight into either the Banning Pass (east of Beaumont) without some surface wind checks.
